The Overview

Fortuna BMC demonstrated its IT consulting abilities when the client (a public transportation company) reached out for assistance with moving their on-premises infrastructure to the cloud in order for the client to improve the delivery of their technology solutions.

The Challenge

The client’s legacy application contained a Pearl-based application with an open-source asterisk infrastructure, which did not allow for scaling to support customers, nor add features and functions to support customers. The platform essentially had no mobile aspects and customers were not being properly supported. There were also challenges with motivating employees to move off of the old system and learn a new one, along with supporting production while also going live with the new system at the same time.

Our Solution

Fortuna BMC transitioned the client from the legacy system to a brand-new free switch infrastructure, PBX, an open-source phone system for the cloud. This application was more appropriate for the client’s business needs, as the free switch infrastructure allowed the platform to become more scalable and functional. A custom mobile application was also built so customers would be able to use their voice solution, eliminating the need for them to buy a phone just for their office.

Deliverables

  • Shifted from a MySQL data back-end to a Maria DB back-end to improve scalability
  • Shifted off of Pearl to the PHP Laravel
  • Upgraded the system and switching infrastructure
  • Switched from asterisks to a free-switch from a back-end phone PBX platform capability perspective
  • Transitioned all the features and functions of the old system to the new system
  • Built a custom-based mobile application to optimize voice solutions for customers

The Outcome

Fortuna BMC provided a 10-man team to conduct this project. It was a highly matrixed environment, but the team was successful in supporting the current production environment while concurrently building out and implementing the updated infrastructure. Fortuna BMC was able to create a solution that made it easier for customers to do business and allowed the client to enable their customers to use their phone system more effectively than before, with the added benefit of a mobile app.
